GWEN - New Album a Flop?
Gwen Stefani is a woman of many talents. A Grammy Award winner, acclaimed songwriter, fashion designer and occasional actress, the 'Hollerback Girl' singer has proved her many attributes throughout her impressive career.
With her quirky image and happy-go-lucky attitude only Gwen could mix yodeling, rap and pop in her latest hit 'Wind It Up' and get away with it.
Gwen's latest single - produced by hip hop stars Pharrell Williams and Chad Hugo - features a prominent hip hop beat, along with a yodeling sample of 'The Lonely Goatherd' from 1965 musical 'The Sound Of Music'.
The song, which marks the 37-year-old's musical comeback after she took time off to have her first baby, reached a respectable Number 7 in US Billboard Hot 100 Chart.
However, the track has received tough criticism from several contemporary pop critics.
It was described as "a musical brain aneurysm" by Billboard music magazine columnist Chuck Taylor, while online entertainment writer Bill Lamb said it "gets high marks for entertainment value but sounds almost like a retread of old ground".
