Did you know that according to the National Insurance Crime Bureau, California is home to six of the top ten auto theft locations in the US? Regional VP for GEICO car insurance, Nancy Pierce, speaks out against insurance fraud. She gives the following steps to guarantee the protection of your vehicle:
1. Always keep car locked, even while driving
2. Don’t leave your keys in the car
3. Park in well lit areas, when possible. Robbers prefer to work in the dark.
4. Never leave valuables in your car; cell phones, lap tops, etc can be targets for theft.
5. Install an anti-theft system such as the club or an ignition cut off system.
6. Beware of the “bump and rob” technique. This is when a vehicle intentionally bumps the rear of your car. When you get out to examine the damage, the thieves steal your car. If you ever feel threatened be sure to call police.
7. Never leave your registration in your car. Many times robbers can easily get away with stolen vehicles because the owner left the registration and proof of insurance inside the car.
8. Always keep an eye on your surroundings. Continually be looking around.
9. Map out your routes. Determine where you’re going and find the best route to get there. Avoid high crime areas.
10. Don’t “be the hero”. If you’re ever confronted by a hi-jacker, give up your car. Cars can be replaced, you can’t.
11. Have your VIN numbers etched into the cars windows.
So take a few minutes and compare car insurance. Get side by side comparisons of car insurance providers. This makes finding good insurance fast and easy. In some states you could complete the process from start to finish in as little as 15 minutes! Wow! So do yourself a favor and spend five minutes making sure you’re getting the best rate possible..even if the paparazzi isn't sfter you!
